Water is a good solvent for polyvinyl alcohol, in the use of the point of view, the water is the only effective solvent. PVA has good membranous, forming film with excellent adhesion, solvent resistance, wear resistance, tensile strength and oxygen barrier performance. Because polyvinyl alcohol has two functional groups, the hydrophilic group and the hydrophobic group. So the polyvinyl alcohol can be used as the protective colloid in the emulsion polymerization and suspension polymerization. These characteristics make polyvinyl alcohol is widely used in all walks of life.
